The HathiTrust Research Center (HTRC) is pleased to announce the award of its second round of Advanced Collaborative Support (ACS) projects. For the first time, HTRC accepted proposals requesting non-consumptive, computational access to in-copyright materials for research purposes, marking a significant milestone for the HathiTrust. Scholars working in a broad array of fields from institutions around the world submitted proposals, and just four were awarded ACS.
The HathiTrust Research Center (HTRC) is seeking proposals for Advanced Collaborative Support (ACS) projects. ACS is a scholarly service at HTRC offering collaboration between external scholars and HTRC staff to solve challenging problems related to computational analysis. By working together with scholars, we facilitate computational access to HathiTrust Research Center digital tools as well as the HathiTrust digital library (HT) based on individual scholarly need.
HTRC Services v3.1 has been released for HTRC Uncamp 2015 on March 26, 2015. This release has a small set of new features and was mainly aimed at bug fixes.
Changes to the main production service include:
- Workset Listing by My Worksets and All Worksets.
The HTRC team made the final release for 3.0 on Feb 27 2015. This version addresses problems found during the 3.0 Beta test period which started on Jan 23 2015, as well as adds an improved user account registration process. Over 50 corrections were made by the HTRC team during the Beta test. Thanks to everyone who reported a problem or made a suggestion.
The HathiTrust Research Center (HTRC) is pleased to announce the recipients of its inaugural Advanced Collaborative Support (ACS) projects. For the inaugural round, HTRC received a total of nine proposals from scholars from a broad set of institutions and research fields.
Each proposal was carefully reviewed for feasibility, research methodology, suitability of the proposed collaboration to HTRC staff availability, availability of the needed data in time for project beginning, and potential adaptability of the outcomes to the broader HTRC community.
The HathiTrust Research Center seeks a skilled senior systems engineer to serve as Operations Manager of the HathiTrust Research Center (HTRC) software and services, and assume a role as Lead R&D Architect in architecting the evolution of the system and services in response to community need and research and development efforts. The candidate is responsible for overseeing daily operations, system security, and ensuring stability, availability, reliability, and safety of the HathiTrust Research Center (HTRC) software and services. The candidate will be comfortable in both a research and operational setting, and possess technical vision and the ability to work with and through others to achieve the vision. He or she will lead technical and operational efforts, and be effective in resolving conflicts. The person will operate in a matrix reporting setting, reporting ultimately to an Executive Management team of HTRC, so will be a self-starter and highly independently motivated. The candidate should be fluent with web services development, scripting languages, data management technologies, and Web authentication and authorization technologies. The position is funded through 2018.

The HathiTrust Research Center is seeking proposals for prototyping projects to define and implement a tool or service that will help scholars better identify and select relevant resources at scale from the HathiTrust corpus and/or facilitate the construction of large-scale worksets useful for scholarly analyses. Grants of $40,000 will be offered to each of four successful respondents to be conducted over a nine-month period beginning April 2014. Workset Creation for Scholarly Analysis: Prototyping Project (WCSA) is generously funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
